Números de suscripción de WoW ¿accidentalmente revelados?

En Twitter, un autor de un popular add-on de WoW ha publicado los supuestos números de suscripción de World of Warcraft.

Desde hace algunos años, Blizzard no ha publicado datos sobre cuántos suscriptores activos tiene World of Warcraft. En su lugar, solo anuncia ciertos logros como la cantidad de ventas de Battle for Azeroth que llegaron a las 3.4 millones de copias el día del lanzamiento.

¿Qué pasó?

Según la cuenta de Twitter de WeakAuras, un add-on muy popular para WoW, Blizzard había lanzado una nueva API que ha permitido a varios usuarios interactuar con cierta información. Aparentemente, los ingeniosos usuarios pudieron leer la fecha de vencimiento de todas las suscripciones de World of Warcraft. Así, llegaron al resultado de los números de suscripciones actuales de WoW.

¿Qué dice el «leak»?

Según la información original, World of Warcraft tenía 3,2 millones de suscriptores activos para el lanzamiento de Battle for Azeroth, y ahora se dice que son 1,7 millones, de los cuales el 25% son cuentas secundarias. En esta información, los jugadores chinos no están incluidos. En general, los números de la cantidad de jugadores son un gran secreto en los MMO.

Como comparación con «Warlords of Draenor» WoW todavía tenía 5,5 millones de jugadores activos en aquel entonces (incluida China).

¿De dónde viene la información?

La información fue distribuida por el Twitter de «WeakAuras». Pero incluso allí se enfatiza que la información debe ser tratada con cuidado, ya que simplemente podría ser data sin sentido alguno. Naturalmente, Blizzard ya ha contactado con WeakAuras asegurando que la información es falsa.
